Shanglufeng Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named by Bian Meinian as the Upper Lufeng System in 1964. The naming section is located in the vicinity of Shawan in the northern suburbs of the Lufeng County town, Yunnan Province, with its reference section being situated in the area of Shawan till the area of the Erzhuan Mts (Compiling Group for the Regional Stratigraphic Chart of Yunnan Province, 1978).

Lithology and Thickness
Lower part is composed of yellow-green siltstone, intercalated with brown-red mudstone. Middle part is brown-red mudstone and yellow-green, grey-green and grey-violet siltstones, intercalated with a small amount of yellow-green mudstone and marl. Upper part is largely of wine-red mudstone, intercalated with grey-violet siltstone and calcareous shale. Total thickness of 515 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its basal part with sandy conglomerate is in a disconformable contact with the dark-red mudstone from the underlying Xialufeng Fm of early Jurassic
Upper contact
Regionally, the schematic strat columns indicate that the next younger unit is the Gaofengsi Fm of earliest Cretaceous.

Fossils
It yields Ostracod fossils such as Darwinula magna, D. sarytirmenensis and D. impudica; bivalve fossils as represented by Psilunio laterilanus; Charophyta fossils as represented by Euaclistochara yunnanensis and E. lufengensis, as well as fish, gastropods and conchostracan fossils.
